Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer a free consultation visit with a dog?
Yes! We’d love to bring one of our certified therapy dogs to your workplace for a complimentary visit. During this time, we’ll learn about your needs and share how Golden Pet Therapy can best support your team.

Do you require a contract?
No, a contract is not required. However, having one in place helps ensure consistent scheduling and guarantees availability for your pet therapy sessions.

Are the dogs good with kids?
Absolutely! All of our dogs are evaluated for temperament and are great with children. That said, every dog has a unique personality and works best in certain environments—we carefully select the right fit for each visit.

What organization are the dogs certified through?
Golden Pet Therapy is a proud member of the AAAIP (Association for Animal-Assisted Intervention Professionals). Each dog is evaluated by a certified dog trainer, and upon passing, is eligible for professional liability insurance through the Business Insurers of the Carolinas.

Are the handlers dog trainers?
No, our handlers are not dog trainers. We partner with K9 Konnection, a professional dog training organization, to ensure our dogs are well-prepared for therapy work.

How often are the dogs groomed?
Every 6 weeks. Routine grooming ensures our dogs are clean, comfortable, and looking their best for every visit.

Do the dogs take preventative medications?
Yes! All dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations and receive monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives to keep them healthy and safe.

Why do you require participants to use hand sanitizer before petting the dogs?
Clean hands help protect both you and our dogs. Using hand sanitizer helps prevent the spread of germs and ensures a safe, healthy interaction for everyone.

🐾 Meet the pack! 🐾

Meet Teddy the Therapy Dog 🐾🎾
Bouncy, cheerful, and full of heart.

Teddy is a pet therapy Goldendoodle (or specify breed if different) with a joyful, Tigger-like spring in his step and just a touch of ADHD that makes him extra enthusiastic about, well, everything. Born on January 1, 2022, Teddy is the senior member of his pack—two other dogs look up to him—and he also shares his home (and occasionally his favorite sunspots) with two cats.

Food? Meh. Teddy isn’t motivated by treats—he lives for verbal praise, cheers, and “Good boy, Teddy!” His true love is his ball: chewing it, chasing it, and proudly retrieving it like it’s his life’s work. That focused play, paired with his buoyant, upbeat energy, channels beautifully into his therapy visits, where he offers comfort, connection, and a contagious zest for life.

Like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh, Teddy is bouncy, optimistic, and wonderfully himself. His mission is simple: lift spirits, spark smiles, and remind people that their joy matters—every single day.

Meet Winnie the Therapy Dog 🐾🍯
Certified to comfort, born to love.

Winnie is a certified pet therapy Goldendoodle with a heart as soft as his fluffy platinum golden coat. Born on May 25, 2023, and raised in a lively home with two other dogs and two cats, Winnie brings warmth and a touch of peace wherever he goes.

Both of his parents are Goldendoodles, and his personality is just as golden. Inspired by his namesake, Winnie the Pooh, he is gentle, thoughtful, and kind. Whether he’s curling up for snuggles or quietly sitting beside someone who needs comfort, Winnie has an uncanny ability to make people feel seen, safe, and supported.

His favorite things? Belly rubs, crunchy carrot sticks, homemade doggie ice cream, and sitting outside, soaking in the breeze and the beauty around him. He lives life at his own peaceful pace—never in a rush, always in the right place at the right time.

Winnie’s mission is simple but profound: to offer unconditional love and remind every heart he meets that they are enough—just as they are.

Meet Max 🐾👑

Gentle, loyal, and distinguished

Max is a gentle and lovable yellow Labrador Retriever born on October 4th, 2024. From the start, he’s had a natural gift for bringing comfort with his calm presence, soulful eyes, and warm-hearted spirit. Raised alongside his nurturing mom, Basil, and his wise senior lab-mix ‘aunt’, Sasha, Max has grown into a balanced and intuitive companion who radiates kindness.

Max's favorite things include backyard zoomies, hiking, swimming, cozy couch cuddles, and making new friends. His gentle nature and joyful energy help him connect with people of all ages, often brightening someone's day with a simple look of compassion. While Max does not love car rides, he loves being out and working as a certified pet therapy dog.

Whether he’s snuggling up beside someone or bouncing over with a happy grin, Max is on a heartfelt mission: to share love, comfort, and puppy joy—one paw at a time. 💛🐾

Coming April 2026!

Meet Chief the Therapy Dog in Training 🐾

Small in size, mighty in heart

Born on March 30, 2025, Chief is a spirited micro Goldendoodle who brings a perfect blend of spunk and snuggles to every visit. Though he may be tiny, his personality is anything but — Chief has a bold heart, a curious nature, and a joyful energy that lights up every room he enters.

Chief loves being part of his pack with his big “brothers”, Teddy and Winnie, and looks up to them as role models in the therapy world. Whether he’s curling up for a cuddle or bouncing around to greet new friends, Chief is all about spreading comfort, joy, and unconditional love.

With Chief, expect sweet tiny paws and a mighty presence that leaves a big impact.
